Leave Your Comfort Zone: Apply for the Techsylvania Hackathon

Just like last year, the 2015 edition of Techsylvania will begin with the Hackathon. Some of you have probably participated in several hackathons so far, but I’m pretty sure that the rest of you who didn’t are willing and excited to do so.

Everything you need to know about the Techsylvania Hackathon

The hackathon will take place on June 6th and 7th. It is going to be a 24 hour marathon. 24 hours of madness, ambition, strategic thinking, sweating (maybe), lots of coffee and fun.

You will have to form a team. You can do it before you arrive at the event or you can just find partners on the day it will take place. Either way, there’s no need to stress over it. You and your team will have 24 hours at your disposal to think, plan and create a technological development that is based on connected devices.

Here are some of the wearable technologies you will be able to code on: the EyeTribe Tracker, Oculus DK2, Leap Motion, Moto 360, Sphero, Pebble, Metawear, Onyx Beacon, UP by Jawbone, Withings and the Google Glass.

Now that we got all the basic info out of the way, let’s see: what will it be like if you decide to apply for the Techsylvania Hackathon?

But first, we need to clarify something. You don’t need to be a developer in order to participate in a hackathon. Your background doesn’t matter, even though the name may deceive you. Think about it for a second: if all of your team members are developers, who is going to be responsible with the design, content and marketing strategy of your product/service?

The more diverse your team is going to be, the better.

So why should you participate in the Techsylvania Hackathon?

  • You will have the chance to work on that big idea you’ve always had. Be honest. You have an idea (or more) in the back of your mind and it has just been standing there because you didn’t have the chance to bring it to life. You won’t have to wait anymore! The Techsylvania hackathon is the perfect place for you to team up with other passionate people and turn your idea into reality.
  • You will build your idea on a wearable device. Connected devices and technologies are very in right now. They might seem like a trend, but they definitely represent the future. They’re still in their infancy, so now’s your chance to go ahead and come up with an awesome and creative idea that can change the world. Read here about last year’s winning tech developments. This way, you might get a better picture of what you’ll be able to do with such devices.
  • It’s challenging. It’s not everyday you’re given the opportunity to build a product from scratch in a limited amount of time. Is this good or bad? It’s obviously a good thing that you can do this at Techsylvania’s Hackathon. It doesn’t matter if it’s your idea or if it’s someone else’s idea. A hackathon is a valuable experience, especially for those who want to start their own business.
  • Working under pressure will make you more productive. Raise your hand if you’ve pulled at least one all-nighter during your college years. We’ve all been there. And what did we learn? That nothing makes us more productive than the night before a deadline. And that’s a fact. The good news is that now you’re prepared for a hackathon and that you’ll probably be able to pull off something you couldn’t do all those years ago.
  • You will present your product in front of the audience that is going to be at the conference. Don’t worry. If you’re not a good public speaker, you can choose another member of your team to do it (variety comes in handy). The awesome prizes we have for the winning teams aren’t the only things that will motivate you. By presenting your product in front of hundreds of people, you and your team have the chance to impress a possible investor, opening the way for new possibilities in the long run.

Where can I get my ticket from?

You can purchase tickets for the hackathon right here. As you can see, if you’re a student, you get a discount. We want to encourage young minds to participate in such exciting competitions.

Now is your time to leave your fears behind and put your mind to work.

See you at the Techsylvania Hackathon!
